This privacy policy informs you about how personal data is processed in our mobile application "Ka.I Companion." The app is fully usable offline; no personal data is transmitted to our servers or to third parties. All processing takes place exclusively locally on your device.

The party responsible for processing personal data is the natural or legal person who, alone or jointly with others, decides on the purposes and means of processing personal data.
No servers, no cloud upload, no tracking, no advertising.
All data remains on your device.
Background operation of local wake word detection: The microphone is used exclusively for on-device detection of an activation word ("wake word") set by you. Audio is not permanently stored.
Emergency functions: Upon detected activation, the app can locally send a pre-formulated SMS (including current location) to contacts selected by you and optionally immediately initiate a call to a contact designated by you.
Permissions are only requested for the functions described and can be revoked at any time in the system settings.
No profiling, no automated individual decision-making within the meaning of Art. 22 GDPR.
The app serves for local wake word detection (permanently active in the background) and triggered emergency contacting (SMS/call) without internet connection or server services. All data processing required for this takes place on-device.
Depending on the use of the functions, the following data categories are processed only on your device:
Microphone/audio data — continuous on-device analysis in volatile buffers for wake word detection; no permanent storage.
Location data (precise/approximate) — for embedding the current location in an emergency SMS triggered by you; no location tracing/logging.
Contact data (from your address book) — read-only access to select/contact emergency contacts.
Phone data/SMS — for locally initiating a call or SMS via the respective system apps on the device; no forwarding via our servers.
Notifications — for local status display.
System events (boot/app updates) — for reactivating the background service after device start/update.
Energy/operating state (wake lock/battery optimization) — to ensure reliable continuous operation; no usage profiles.
Special categories of personal data (Art. 9 GDPR) are not specifically processed by us.
Permissions are requested contextually via Android system dialogs. Depending on the function, we base processing on consent (Art. 6 (1) (a) GDPR), contract or pre-contractual measures (Art. 6 (1) (b) GDPR), and in emergencies on vital interests (Art. 6 (1) (d) GDPR). Where necessary, legitimate interest (Art. 6 (1) (f) GDPR) may also apply — for example, to ensure the stability and security of the app without external transmission.
For permanent wake word detection, the app processes audio exclusively on-device in volatile buffers. No permanent storage takes place. This permission is required for the core function and can be revoked at any time in the Android settings. Legal basis: Consent (a), contract (b).
In detected emergencies, the app can send an SMS configured by you locally via the system messaging app. The current location can be included upon request. You determine the content and recipients. Legal basis: Consent (a), contract (b), in emergencies (d).
Optionally, the app immediately initiates a local call to a contact chosen by you. Legal basis: Consent (a), contract (b), in emergencies (d).
To select and contact your emergency contacts, the app accesses your address book in read-only mode. No copying, synchronization, or transmission takes place. Legal basis: Consent (a), contract (b).
To control processes (e.g., detecting an active call), the phone state is queried; no profiling takes place. Legal basis: Consent (a), contract (b).
The current location can be determined on-device for an emergency SMS. There is no tracking and no location history. Legal basis: Consent (a), contract (b), in emergencies (d).
For reliable 24/7 operation, the app uses a foreground service with a visible status notification. Legal basis: Legitimate interest (f), contract (b).
To display status and security notices (e.g., "Background service active"), the app can send notifications; you control this in the Android settings. Legal basis: Consent (a).
After device start or app update, the service can be automatically reactivated. No data transmission takes place. Legal basis: Contract (b), legitimate interest (f).
To keep detection reliable, the device can be briefly prevented from deep sleep; we use this sparingly and without usage profiling. Legal basis: Legitimate interest (f).
For stable background operation, exemption from system battery optimizations may be suggested — only when needed. You can revoke this at any time. Legal basis: Consent (a), legitimate interest (f).
Note: Some core functions cannot be used technically without the respective permission. You can grant or revoke permissions later; the app adjusts its functionality accordingly.
No recipients: No personal data is passed on to external recipients.
No third-country transfer: No transfer to third countries takes place.
No external SDKs/trackers: The app does not use any analytics, advertising, or crash SDKs (e.g., Firebase Analytics/Crashlytics, Facebook SDK).
Wake word audio processing takes place volatilely in working memory (ring buffer).
Persistent data (e.g., local settings, contact/text templates) remains only on your device and is deleted when you:
System backups: Operating system backups (e.g., Google Drive backup) can back up local app data without our involvement; this is subject to the terms of the respective provider.
We take state-of-the-art technical and organizational measures, including:
Depending on the requirements, you have the right to information, rectification, erasure, restriction of processing, data portability, and objection.
Since we do not process any data outside your device, we can support your rights in particular through instructions for self-deletion/management in the app. For purely locally stored content, you can delete the data yourself at any time (App settings / Android settings → Apps → Storage → Clear data).
To exercise your rights, please contact us using the contact details provided above.
You have the right to lodge a complaint with a data protection supervisory authority (Art. 77 GDPR), in particular in the Member State of your habitual residence, your place of work, or the place of the alleged infringement.
Our app is not intended for children under 16 years of age, unless it is used with the consent of a parent or guardian and/or is necessary to protect vital interests (e.g., emergency functions).
There is no automated decision-making including profiling pursuant to Art. 22 GDPR. The wake word detection serves solely for local function triggering without personal evaluation.
We may amend this privacy policy if functions, legal frameworks, or technical standards change. The current version displayed in the app or store applies.
If you have any questions about data protection, please write to us at:

Please indicate in your inquiry that it concerns the offline mobile app "Ka.I Companion."
Permanent background operation: The app uses a foreground service with a permanent notification. You can end/pause the operation at any time.
Wake word & audio processing: Audio is only processed temporarily for detection and is not stored.
Emergency SMS/call: Content and recipients are determined by you. The location is only determined for the respective SMS and is not logged.
Battery optimizations: For reliable operation, exempting the app from battery optimizations may be required. You control this yourself in Android.
